Introducing No Days Off, a series where we’ll be highlighting creatives and boundary pushers by showing how they spend their day. First up, menswear blogger & content creator Denny Balmaceda.
1 - WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
Ah yes! I actually love my typical day because it can go anyway depending on my schedule. I always wake up and answer emails first. There are times, I edit work for brands all day and there are days, just shooting and creating content. I have my office at home and I can easily turn my living room into my very own personal photo studio. It can get overwhelming because it feels like there is always so much to do. I pride myself for being a creative person and always creating. I never want to lose that.
2 - WHAT ARE SOME [PROFESSIONAL] MILESTONES THAT YOU'RE EXCITED ABOUT HITTING IN 2020?
Oh! So many! I’ve been a blogger since 2007 and every time I get an email from a brand to work, I still consider it a milestone! But this year, I’m thinking about investing in a lot of things as well as starting a vintage shop online to have a little side hustle.
3 - WHAT DRIVES YOU / YOUR WORK? [PURPOSE]
I’ve mentioned before, I feel like I’m just built to have drive and be creative all the time. I just love to create and I’m always inspired.
4 - LIFE DEMANDS PERFORMANCE. IN WHAT WAYS WERE YOU PUSHED OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE [WITH YOUR WORK]?
I feel like I am always pushed out of my comfort zone when it comes to my line of work. I’m actually more of an introvert but people always assume I’m an extrovert. So every single thing for me is a 10x harder than a normal person. I always push myself to the fullest because I never want to disappoint myself
5 - WE AT ALPHA UNDERSTAND THAT MINDSET IS A HUGE FACTOR AND OFTEN AN ADVANTAGE IN REACHING SUCCESS. HOW DO YOU [MENTALLY] PREPARE FOR THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES YOUR WORK PRESENTS?
The cool thing about me is that I automatically come up with ideas while it’s being presented to me. I can come up with at least 3-5 ideas on the spot. My mind is constantly running but yes there are always challenges like not seeing eye to eye but there has to be trust and I will always find a way to make things work for all. That’s very important.
ABOUT PERSONAL STYLE:
1 - HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF WEARING THIS PIECE / THESE PIECES?
When it comes to style, I’m very versatile. I have gained knowledge from my mentors, working at vintage stores and even working at a video store when I was younger to get style inspirations from films. I like mixing different styles that normally do not go together and make it my own. I always wear western hats so that’s my statement piece whether I style the pieces very streetwear, western or even dapper. I make it work where my confidence is the last piece to complete the look. The way you carry yourself is very important.
2 - WOULD YOU SAY YOUR STYLE MATCHES YOUR AMBITION?
Absolutely, every single detail with my style and life is well thought out. Being a blogger, my brand is important to me so style and ambition has to go well together.
3 - HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
4 - THE SS20 PT COLLECTION WAS BORN OF PURPOSE. WHAT KIND OF PURPOSE DOES IT SERVE FOR YOUR STYLE / YOUR WORK?
I think being able to carry yourself with confidence in an authentic way and less pretentious is the way to be. Your purpose should always be the image you share with the world. Authenticity is key.
