EPISODE 1: OFFSET

Alpha Industries was founded in the 1950’s with the mission of outfitting and protecting the heroes who served our country.  That mission has evolved to present day, as Alpha is committed to recognizing heroism in all forms, both military and civilian.  Today, we continue the Alpha Industries Hero Series, a selection of videos that tell the story of different heroes in not only military, but also the worlds of fashion, art, music, and entertainment. We will examine what defines heroism and holds true across all forms- taking risks and rising to the occasion.

Kari Kendrell Cephus, better known by his stage name Offset, is an American hip-hop recording artist from Lawrenceville, Georgia. He takes his life experiences and translates them into his music.  We had the opportunity to sit-down with Offset and his daughter, Kalea, to get his prospective on what constitutes being a hero.

To Offset, being a hero means being a hero to his kids. He takes being a young father seriously and does everything he can to empower his kids. Spending time with his children is extremely important to him, and he thinks this really helps them understand him as a person. He is the one his kids look up to, and he emphasizes being a positive influence on their lives. This way, his kids can choose their own paths. Growing up, Offset did not have a man in his life that he could really look up to. Now, this drives him to be the best father he can be.

Someone Offset did have in his life, however, was his Grandma who was a special influence on the man he has become. Sorrowfully, she passed away from cancer. Since then, he has been very active with the American Cancer Society in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cause. He loves to give back and is humbled to be successful enough to really help others in the community. What make’s Offset’s story special is that he stepped up for not only his family but also the community.
