Christina Lee is a fashion industry veteran of 25 years and the founder of chng+crw ("change and crew"), a brand that reflects her belief in the transformative power of change. For her, design has a profound impact on culture, inspiring positive change within oneself and society as a whole. While establishing her brand, the greatest challenge for Christina was overcoming self-doubt and learning to believe in herself. But, in doing so, she not only nurtured the confidence to trust in her creative vision, but was able to stay true to her purpose and mission. Her successful journey has been marked by authenticity, collaboration, and dedication to sustainability.

Christina feels that the key to success for any woman in a creative field is staying true to oneself and defining guiding principles. Today, besides running her brand chng+crw, Christina teaches at the FIT and Parsons School of Design, covering subjects such as sustainability in fashion and branding. Her dedication to fulfilling her aspirations and purpose is unwavering.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?

What inspires me to create is the transformative power of change. With nearly 25 years in the fashion industry, I've witnessed the profound impact design can have on culture. My brand, chng+crw (pronounced "change and crew"), embodies this ethos. It's about not only embracing change within oneself but also rallying together with your crew to effect positive change in society and culture.

WERE THERE ANY BARRIERS IN YOUR CAREER? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?

As I look back on my career journey, I recognize that the most significant hurdle I encountered was building my brand— essentially, believing in myself. Overcoming this challenge demanded that I nurture the confidence to trust in my capacity to establish a brand that not only harmonizes with my purpose and profitability but also echoes my personal mission. This transition empowered me to concentrate on constructing something deeply meaningful and fulfilling, rather than exclusively attending to the needs of others' brands.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR GREATEST SUCCESS?

My greatest success thus far has been overcoming self-doubt and embracing my own creative vision instead of solely supporting others'. I am now living out my purpose authentically and collaborating with like-minded individuals who share my values.

WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS OF WORKING WITH ALPHA LIKE?

Collaborating with Alpha has been a rewarding experience. The team has proven to be excellent collaborators, and their commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives perfectly complements the mission of chng+crw. Their enthusiastic support for my ideas aimed at fostering positive change has been invaluable. Moreover, their dedication to collaborating with a small local NYC brand like myself is particularly meaningful.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN LOOKING TO SUCCEED IN A CREATIVE FIELD?

My advice to other women aspiring to succeed in a creative field is to start by defining who you are and the purpose you aim to serve within that field. Clarify your personal values, mission, and purpose; let them serve as your guiding principles, your north star. Authenticity is key, so stay true to yourself. Take the time to quiet your mind, listen to your heart, and trust your intuition. These steps will help illuminate the path for your journey towards success.

IF YOU WEREN'T DESIGNING, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

I'm currently balancing everything I've ever wanted to do and more. In addition to running my brand chng+crw, I teach parttime at FIT and Parsons School of Design | The New School, covering topics such as Sustainability in Fashion Merchandising, Creative Team Dynamics, Personal Branding and Marketing, and First Year Experience. Additionally, I'm honored to serve on the Sustainability Council Board at FIT. It's been a journey to reach this point, but I'm fulfilling all my aspirations and serving my purpose.
