On Patriot Day, we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terror attacks on 9/11 as well as those individuals who rose up during our country’s darkest hour to aid their fellow citizens. It is a day of prayer and remembrance. Across the nation, flags are flown at half-staff as a mark of respect and many people observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM EST - when the first plane flew into the World Trade Center.
Through the unimaginable anguish, however, regular citizens displayed extraordinary acts of bravery, sacrifice, and kindness that illustrated the shared values which our country holds. There are numerous inspiring stories of heroism such as when the passengers of Flight 93 rushed the cockpit to save countless other lives. These actions define patriotism and make us proud to be Americans.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our country’s extraordinary servicemen and women for their patriotism and self-sacrifice in protecting this nation and the values we share.
