Pearl Harbor Attacks, WWII

It was 74 years ago today that the Japanese launched a surprise air attack against the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The base was hit by two waves Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes. When all was said and done eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged with four sunk, 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. It was this event that prompted the United States to enter World War II. The fact that this attack came without a declaration of war or any explicit warning lead President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941 as "a date which will live in infamy." Watch and learn more about this historic event.
